the flowers in Auschwitz

this series is made up of 23 black and white silver prints

when I was in Auschwitz-Birkenau, visiting the ruins, I suddenly saw these flowers
in a large stretch of grass along the path, and far away the dark line of
the concrete-made buildings of the camp. I was immediately filled with sideration
and hope by those incredible flowers which were blossoming among the weeds
in this place of Memory despite of all the horror. Living flowers in such a Death place
sign the presence of the missing people and the perpetuation of their memory
as a part of the History of Europe which cannot be forgotten. They incarnate
and establish an opening that tells us something essential in Humanity
and reminds us that the line separating Humanity and Barbarism is tenuous
and can be crossed everyday again.
